“Selfie world” Collection
This series is done by combining mirror sheets, vibrant colors, and textures to show the complex world of narcissism. The textures are created: using molding paste with a palette knife; sculpting, and incising or scratching lines; applying stencils to form patterns. This art collection explores the social and psychological consequences of social media and technology. The main theme is “Collective narcissism” or “narcissism epidemic” — the epidemic of an inflated sense of self. From deceptive selfie angles to curating every life event, contemporary society, social media, and modern technology have engineered a generation of self-obsessed narcissists. The craving for self-validation is so prominent that it has generated an entire exchange economy where people interact with fake sentiments to promote themselves. The ego-affirming notifications have replaced genuine emotions and connections. Mirror in the paintings symbolizes self-obsession, vanity, and arrogance.
